The Uncertain Future of Moore’s Law

As microchip manufacturing drives further into the nanoscale, uncertainty surrounding Moore's Law -- the pace of development in the digital world -- appears to be increasing. In the June 15, 2011 issue of the online journal Science Progress, CNS-UCSB extramural collaborator David C. Brock. discusses the policy implications of a possible shift from regularity to uncertainty in the development of microelectronics.

David C. Brock is an historian of technology and the co-author of Makers of the Microchip (MIT Press, 2010). Brock is a Senior Research Fellow with the Center for Contemporary History and Policy at the Chemical Heritage Foundation, and is also a member of CNS-UCSB's IRG1, studying nanotechnology's origins, institutions, and communities.
