Undergraduate students at UC Santa Barbara and community college students will have the opportunity to spend their summer on a paid research assignment investigating societal impacts of cutting-edge nanotechnologies.
During the eight-week program, each undergraduate intern will be
matched with a mentor and gain first-hand experience working
collaboratively with top researchers in the country. Additionally,
interns will participate in weekly group meetings to develop oral
presentation skills, attend special seminars, and present their results
at an end-of-summer poster session. The summer internship
program is open to any UC Santa Barbara or California community college
student. Eligible students must be majoring in science, engineering,
social science or humanities, and enrolled as a sophomore, junior or
senior in Fall 2007.
“Summers are an excellent time to take
advance an education outside of the classroom,” said CNS Education
Coordinator Meredith Murr. “We hope that by reaching out to not only
our UCSB community, but to community college students and
underrepresented student groups, we will be able to bring every
perspective to the table. This is a wonderful opportunity for not just
UCSB students, but for community college students, to become engaged in
some of the country’s top-level research.”
Interns will receive
a stipend of $2,800 and up to $800 for housing. Application deadline
is April 15, 2007. More information can be found at
