China's Role in the Global Innovation System
China is trying to pivot its economy from one that makes things to one that designs them. CNS researchers weighed in on those efforts at a conference hosted this past weekend by Duke Kunshan University (DKU). Called "China's Role in the Global Innovation System," the conference was organized by CNS collaborator and DKU Executive Vice Chancellor Denis Simon. He and another CNS collaborator, Cong Cao, addressed China's talent in science, engineering and management. CNS co-PI Richard Appelbaum assessed China's progress towards innovation in the nanotechnology sector. The conference, which combined industry leaders (in clean tech, media, entertainment, finance and IT) with innovation experts, was also attended by CNS Postdoctoral Scholar Xueying (Shirley) Han whose research seeks to understand the cosmopolitan context of higher education in STEM disciplines.
